Singapore Again
Feb. 6th, 2005 08:24 amI disocvered the problem with Frankfurt Friday night (that is, the problem other than the pedestrian crossing lights), and that is that it isn't Bavarian. I had dinner in the Bavarian restuarant because their turkey schnizel was cheaper. And they did have apple wine, which was a nice bonus. I did that after going to church. A German Catholic Mass. I think I could quite happily be, or I'm quite happy thinking I could be, an old Bavarian Catholic woman.
I'm at the airport awaiting the plane that will take almost as long to get to Melbourne from here as it took to cross Eastern Europe (with was white with snow, and then grey with snow), the Middle East and India. I feel like I'm carrying my own weight in clothing. I haven't this warm since I was last here. I retreated again to the humidity, but novel outsideness of the Sunflower garden. I got to share ammused looks with the family who were taking off their shoes and socks as I was putting my back on again to come inside and attempt to type on a keyboard with the y and z keys around the other way again.
I had to get up and leave pretty much all in one go this morning (yesterday), so my last post was really all there was left to say about Germany. Except that I will also miss German radio, which has the oddest mix of new music (Eminem, Linkin Park, Maroon 5), new German music (including Juli, which I bought, and several other groups who sing in English), and older English-language music (like REM's Loosing My Religion, Billy Joel, Summer in the City, It's Raining Men, and other songs I have only heard spoof versions of.)
Very glad to be heading home. I could have stayed though, if I had had any reason to.
I may have to go on some Melbourne based adventures to keep my adventuring (and museum going) spirit satisfied.
(P.S, had sushi for breakfast. It was very nice, and tasted properly chilled and 'fresher' than anything I've eaten for a while. I could find the garden the first time from P and Bro's directions, but of course, there are (at least) two Koi ponds in Changi Airport. Off to drink more water now.)
