Every time I write a post for this journal in my head, it begins with "So it seems…." But then I skip what it actually seems and move on to the meat of the post. Which I never actually post because by the time I do all the fannish stuff, and the roleplaying and check my f'list the entire lack of audience here makes posting seem pointless. And I don't know how to get an audience. Or even if I really want one. Or if I do have one which doesn't speak. If you're here, for whatever reason, feel free to comment.

I have Interview Meme questions from [livejournal.com profile] the_fibber to answer.

Did you know there's going to be a Get Smart movie? I discovered this when I was doing my six-degrees-of-imdb to find out who plays Niki's mother in Heroes. The autofill on the address bar came up with Frances de la Tour, because I looked up The History Boys for P a couple of weeks ago. I remembered that Masi Oka, who plays Hiro in Heroes was in an episode of Studio 60. So then I had to get from Frances de la Tour to Hereos. She was in one of the Harry Potter films (four, to be precise), which gets me to Emma Thompson, who was in Angels in America with Mary-Louise Parker, who was in the West Wing, which was created by Aaron Sorkin, who also created Studio 60. Masi Oka is going to be in the Get Smart movie. Along with Terrance Stamp as Sigfried, Steve Carell (the uncle in Little Miss Sunshine) as Max and Alan Arkin (Grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine) as the Chief.

Niki's mother is played by a woman who appeared in one episode of season one of CSI.

I have changed my layout. This is called Mary Queen of Arkansas and was made by [livejournal.com profile] grrliz and can be found at [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum. I still just trying it out because it is difficult to recognise posters and communities in this layout. Nevertheless, I like it very much. (It doesn't show userpics on the front page. There is a way of getting it to do that, but if that doesn't look any good, I'll have to change it. Oh, the trouble.)

It's amazing how much the cure for writing really is simply writing. I went to the State Library on Tuesday for no other reason than to not be at home. I left my library card at home, so I couldn't access the internet there, and instead of worrying about that, I gave up on checking my email and just started typing. I was writing my story for the Remix. I worked out which story it was at work last week and that night I got the opening. But on Tuesday I went from 80 words to 1300. I got to 600 words before I knew what the point was, before I knew what the story was about. I had the opening from one line of the original fic, and I ran with that describing character and just saying stuff, until my character needed to do something, and then I worked out when and where it was set. (Both compared to the original story and to the canon.) It was still another few hundred words before I mananged to work in the original story again.

So I have almost 1500 words of my Remix fic now. It's only the barest draft, and at most only a third of the words will make it into the final draft. But it simply takes writing.

I left and had lunch and bought the next Pterry book (I'm up to Soul Music) and walked down the City Library and got the laptop out again. There I wrote the first seven hundred words of a sequel of sorts to another fic I wrote. I already knew when and where it was set, and why it was a story (the time alone, it's five years after an Event). But I still didn't know how it was to be structured or how it was being told. Now I do. Despite relying on HP (and in fact, roleplay game) canon, it's very much an original fic, set outside of canon timelines and featuring characters that have been barely named in canon. I'm going to see what I can do with the idea once I post said fic.

Fanfiction

I am currently (avoiding) working on a research assignment on fanfiction communities. It's due tomorrow, I have a German essay due on Tuesday, and my politics exam on Wednesday.
This is post is to show you some of my fanfic, because I have been asked two and half time.

So, I'm currently researching the 1930s and 40s in England to write for Communiquills: Letters Home.

Anyone who has read and enjoyed the five books of Harry Potter may understand the appeal of the following letters:

Hannah Abbot's letter to her mother at the end of Goblet of Fire.
Oliver Wood's letter to James Potter at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban. Yes, I know James is dead, that's pretty much the point.

I have to write other things now.

I was going to go to Stammtisch (drinking session with German class, during which we must speak German, and which falls between our last class and the exam, the exam being the last time I will see some of the people in the class). But I forgot that today was Monday. I got about a tenth, maybe a fifteenth of what I wanted to do today actually done, which is much more than it was looking like at two o'clock this afternoon. I'll get there, but I'm not, you know, actually looking forward to the assessment period. (The assessment is fine; it's the having to get it in on time (all at the same time) and then waiting to get a mark on it which I so hate.)

Was on winning Trivia team on Friday night. Very tentative (and possibly actually non-existent) plans now exist to go to other trivia night things. Friday night's one was organised by the Melbourne University Mathematics and Statistics Society. The questions were good, the format was good, and we had a lot of fun. (And we won! I did tell [livejournal.com profile] degsie when he rang to remind me on Thursday that even if the prizes were crappy they would less crappy than any others I had won, since I have never won any before. We got four extra points because [livejournal.com profile] jpom40 was able to guess all of my miming.)

Imo's birthday was the Saturday before that, and it was good, got to see heaps of people, eat great food, be convinced to go to the trivia night (afternoon).

Sam and I now have Sports Night on DVD, but I'll rave about someplace else (and in RL, so don't think you'll be spared).

Less than three weeks until I move out of home, a date from which i will be more regularly updating this journal (and less regularly updating two of the others. (The fourth, which has been down graded from the third, is updated sporadically only. Sam is currently due an update for it.)) I should let you know that all comments are now screened, which means you can write to me without anyone else reading it. If you have a LJ, and use it to comment here, I won't screen it, because I will answer here on the assumption that you will notified of the respose.)

Now for some haikus which I got from [livejournal.com profile] tienriu. Tien is the force behind the Skyehawke archive, where some of my fic is archived (most of the rest of it is also on the Pit of Voles.) And I should also tell you that several of the post on the front of [livejournal.com profile] deleting_my_lj say that they are deleting their LiveJournal because someone from Real Life (tm) has found them out.

How many people read this? How many of them do I know? How many of them want to see some fic?

I just posted this at my real non-real journal, which you can beat [livejournal.com profile] the_fibber up for the address to, if you really want to. I've just spend over an hour doing non-production admin type work on my research project.

It is one am, I'm trying to instigate a regime of going to bed on time (eleven at absolute latest), it is very cold, and I have my German Oral exam tomorrow morning. P and L are going away and Bro is taking the opportunity to have a large party. I have my own party to go to, but the Bec is leaving, so I still don't know where I'm going to sleep, or where I'm going to get red shoe polish from.

I haven't prepared for the oral in the same way that I simply didn't show up to the class I was supposed to give a presentation in. I will have to give it next week, and hope I actually use the time I have to do it. I didn't go to the Dance Performance last weekend, but [livejournal.com profile] the_fibber has Sports Night DVDs to watch this weekend, and I had to dance without my glasses today.

My brain patterns have obviously been disturbed by the chocolate sauce I made for dessert, although I did have fun walking to the shops to buy dinner ingredients this evening, and I'm moving out of home on the eighteenth on June to housesit S&S's house, just around the corner.

I posted this (plus other stuff) in my other journal, because the people on the internet already know how odd I am and may give me hugs of support. I think I can go to bed now, but that's only the first part of actually getting to sleep.

See, I'm still here, still doing this.

It's just another list for the time being, but still.

I handed in a politics essay on Friday, a day late after a week's extension. I should pass well, but not do much better than that.

I handed in my research proposal on Monday. I will be studying fanfic and the internet. But things may be a strange doing that. I got to read Henry Jenkins for it, he's quite interesting.

Last night was a friend's 21st. There were many strange people I didn't know, but it was good party. Although I may have to start actively avoiding eating mint leaves. Sigh - my inherited British-ness encourages a love of plain food.

I had my wisdom teeth out on the 29th of March and got to spend the holidays eating custard and watching the West Wing instead of doing my essays.

I have 700 words in German to write for next week, and I have to read several stories by Thomas Mann, and Franz Kafka.

I have another friend's 21st on Saturday and have to arange speeches. Hehehe, embarrassing stories. (The speech last night reminded me of some things.)

I am moving out of home over the mid-year break and will maintain this so that people that I now talk to will be able to follow what I'm doing.

I organised our CDs today. [livejournal.com profile] the_fibber helped me, he was very good. I collected all the more-than-300 CDs in the house and wrote down all the names. Now I have to organise the names and work out who owns the Anne McCue CD, and who owns Nevermind.
