Plot Bunnies
Mar. 18th, 2007 09:33 pmI was at the Port Fairy Folk Festival last weekend.
I ended up with four short story ideas. Most of my ideas come in reaction to an opinion about the scope of fantasy writing (rather than bubbling up out of the pool on inspiration, like these did), they are also usually in the form of T.V. shows.
The first owes a lot to Isobel Carmody's Green Monkey Dreams, because most of what I write is going to. (At least now, since I read Megan Lindholm's Wizard of the Pigeons and fell in love with cities as the setting of fantasy.) It's on the beach, see, and is about grief and waiting and return and family.
The second is about dancing, and well dance and youth and character.
The third is about a woman thinking that the life she has is not the one that she thought she would have, but kind of discovering that it really is. Or something. I've got the opening for that.
Of course, this aren't actually what they're about, this is just code for the colour and taste and sound of them, so that I can remember. I have to work out how to translate colour and taste and sound in Someone Who Does Something. Or, better yet, Someone Doing Something (which is more plot-like you know).
I also ended up with one song idea. (I was very much bemused by this.) It is inspired by the idea-argument thing though. The idea of an Atheist gospel song.
Also, I decided that I'm going to be in a band. In about 10-15 years, after I seriously start practising music. I do not have a great ear, but it is markedly better than it was. Also, I seriously love my cello and I miss playing. I need a new string, though.
There will a post about the festival itself and other things. But I need to go through the notes I wrote in my programme before I can write about it.
